Patti Smith storming back on all fronts

Patti Smith, who made her greatest impact in the '70s, is headed for a 21st-century rebound. Photographer Steven Sebring makes his film debut directing documentary patti smith:dream of life, due in september. the 11-year project, which won an award at this year's Sundance Film Festival, captures the godmother of punk through interviews, performances, lyrics, paintings and photos. Sebring's same-named companion book, to be published by Rizzoli in august, includes previously unpublished photos from Smith's collection. And on july 11, Smith will release The Coral Sea, a double live CD recorded with my Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields, on the pair's new PASK label.
