Rock legend Patti Smith is celebrated in a new film, Patti Smith: Dream of Life (Palm Pictures), coming to US theatre screens this September. The film from first-time director Steven Sebring, known for his photographic work, premiered at this year’s Sundance Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. New Yorkers can get an early look at the film as it screens in August at the Film Forum from August 6-19. The film has generated some nice press buzz already with the Hollywood Reporter calling it a “joy for anyone interested in pop culture of the past 40 years”.Prior to the release of the film, noted art publisher Rizzoli will put out a companion book, Patti Smith: Dream of Life, hitting the shops in August. The richly produced tome will include a treasure trove of photos, including never-before-published Polaroid’s taken by Smith as well as other photos from her archives.
